Flight to Bangkok.....Feb 26th 2007

Posted on 3 March 2007 at 10:47

Hi Everyone,

Long time no blog.....sorry. Thought that I would add some pics from a recent business trip to Bangkok. Departed from Singapore on a Singapore Airlines B777-312...was hoping to leave from Runway 02C, which would have given me nice pics of the airport etc, but instead we taxied across South Cross to leave from 02L.....darn! This did however give me the chance to take some pictures of the ECP, the motorway that runs to the airport from the "other" side! We then proceeded to line up on 02L and depart for BKK........

As usual a wonderful flight with excellent service.....and some nice pics for me as well of the cabin!!!!!

After about 1 1/2 hours, we began our descent into BKK..........

and after all too short a time.....we were on the ground at BKK and ready to deplane.

Once again, another satisfied passenger! Enjoy the pics and next time....some pics of the spotting that I managed at BKK

Saturday Singapore

The weekend arrived, the stars were out and off I went to the airport to catch some hopefully interesting subjects!

Unfortunately by the time I arrived the clouds had moved in and it was always going to be 50/50 on whether or not we were going to have a sunny morning. Alas, it was not meant to be, but the lack of very good sun was more than made up by at least some intereesting subjects that kept us happy!

United Airlines have two flights a day out of SIN, one B747 and one B777. We always hope for the new colours and today were rewarded with N199UA and N219UA, both proudly displaying the new livery!

Also, at approximately 0740, we saw a "smoker" coming into 02C. Wondering what it could be, we all peered through our telephoto lenses, eventually working out that it was the only B727 operator into Changi....Tri MG Cargo from Indonesia. But this aircraft was different, it was a 100 series (we normally get the 200 series) and we got it landing (normally they arrive in darkness)

Enjoy as always

Sunday Morning Fun!

Posted on 7 January 2007 at 11:15

Only spent a couple of hours at the airport this morning.....but they turned out to be productive!

KC and I arrived early to survey the latest status of the double fencing, which is going seriously curtail our photography activities......and as you can see, we are coming to the final days / weeks. (And yes, we DID arrive early!)

Still, early arrivals also gives you opportunities to take different types of pictures, and as you can see, Tiger Airways is clearly the dominant carrier at the Budget Terminal

So onto the morning's events. We were all pleased when the BG flight was delayed (when is it not these days!) and a DC-10 passing by the camera lens is aceepted with glee

The newest SQ type in the fleet is the B777-312ER with "big engines" and revised titles and we still get a kick from seeing it land. 9V-SWA is pictured arriving from Barcelona / Milan

We also had the pleasure of the Malaysian Air Force paying us a visit, with a type that we had not seen before at Changi

I was also hoping to get the United Airlines Star Alliance B777, in fact I ALWAYS hope for that aircraft, but have yet to be successful. However, I did manage a consolation prize!

Not bad for acouple of hours work....ENJOY!

A Basic Aviation Photographer's Lesson!

Posted on 4 January 2007 at 17:48

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to pass on a piece of advice to everyone, that has always left me in good standing (and is especially appropriate in this day and age of "free digital shooting")

Never ever let anything go past the camera without clicking and never ever delete or throw away any of your images. I have leanred this simple rule over the years, and now looking back at my collection of photos, I'm so glad that I stuck to this rule. It took me years to learn how to photograph properly, and when I first started, I was quite awful (some would say I still am!)

I have just scanned some of my older images from the 1980s and 1990s and as you will see below, the quality is not the best, but the memories that they evoke, plus the rarity of these subjects today will hopefully make you forgive the poor quality. As a selection, I decided to scan and upload my all time favourite aircraft, the DC-10 in various liveries, locations and conditions. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I did photographing, scanning and reminiscing about them...

And oh yes........don't forget that lesson!!

Andrew

A Malaysian DC-10 (9M-MAV) photographed on pushback at Kai Tak in the 1980s. A scan taken from a badly degraded print......but I love it!

A "Metal" DC-10 (N133AA) taken at SFO before 9/11, when I was free to roam around the restricted area.....joy!

Transaero DC-10 (N141AA) pictured rotating from Kai Tak in the mid 1990s.....a really rare bird that I was lucky enough to capture!

Northwest DC-10 (N145US)in the bowling shoe scheme pictured on my first trip to LAX, where I was lucky enough to get ramp access......!

Another NW DC-10 (N147US) pictured at Paris CDG from the ring road around the terminal in no so ideal conditions....but as 50mm, who cares!

A FedEx DC-10 (N316FE) photographed at London Heathrow in 1992, love those old colours!

Continental DC-10 (N68042) at Kai Tak operating for Continental Micronesia....taken from the famous carpark in not so ideal conditions!

Martinair DC-10 (PH-MBN) which sadly crashed....and looking awful with heat haze and poor lighting conditions.....perhaps the best example of the rule.....photograph and keep everything!

Hi Everyone,

I thought that as a good resolution for the New Year, it would be interesting to start a blog on my favourite hobby.....aviation photography! It will give me a chance to share with the world my passion, my experiences and my photos! Please do drop in and have a look as I will be adding regularly, normally with lots and lots of pics.....enjoy!

As a start, my mother recently visited me in Singapore and the prefect Christmas gift was an Epson V700 perfection scanner, which enables me to scan my rather large slide collection. I have been having a lot of fun with it, and would like to share with you some of the initial output, which brings back some fantastic memories for me!

Starting with a BA 747 from Kai Tak! Love it!

A German treat from 14 years ago!!!

And last but not least......a Singapore Airlines A340-300, which is now just a fond but clear memory!

Hope you like the pics, and I hope to add more in the near future!

Andrew
