Another day in paradise (aka Kirkwall Airport)

One more for the week

20:26, 14 March 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

I thought my notes were over for the week until my air taxi went tech this morning, meaning I did not get to Stornoway.

As luck would have it Nick Bentley an ATCO at Kirkwall (and incidentally building his own Pitts Special) phoned me to let me know that a a Cessna 140 had just landed and was parked at the small apron.

Not knowing what a Cessna 140 was and as it was time for a cup of tea, I stuck my head round the corner and was met with this sight.  It's only the second tail dragger I have seen.  Built in 1949 and based at Shempston Airport, just outside Elgin.

Out of interest, it uses only 20l of fuel per flying hour, almost cheaper to run than my Land Rover!

And, of course, the inside

And finally a close up of the tail.

My attempt at an artistic photograph.  Have a great weekend.  Until next week.

Neil
