Another day in paradise (aka Kirkwall Airport)

In for a penny, in for a pound

I thought while I was at it I might as well upload a few more pictures from Kirkwall and a few from my trip to Inverness yesterday starting with G-LGNN, Saab 340B in Flybe colours which will be a daily sight from the end of October.

We had an HS125 from the Royal Flight in to pick up a couple of Royals who were visiting the islands.  ZD620 was flown by 2 Claires with a male host in the cabin, which is unusual.  Many thanks for their kindness and guided tour of the aircraft.

And the inside

I got a phone call from Maggie at the information desk on saturday night telling me that Peter Henderson from the tower was letting me know a DA42 was in overnight.  Whats a DA42, I hear you ask, have I mistyped?  Nope its a twin diesel engine futuristic looking aircraft.

This photo does not do it justice but here is a closer up shot from the front

Then it was off to Inverness for a day.  I had a few hours to kill so went a wander to the end of 05 and took these pics.  First G-ZZSD which was buzzing around doing touch and go's.  Obviously a Super Puma.

Then G-EZDM A319 passed over on take off

Quickly followed by the landing of G-EZDE

Then G-FBEJ Embraer 195

G-EXPS Sort 360 (shed)

G-JEDK Dash 8

And finally never let it be said that I can say no to a lady so especially for Emma at Inverness Airport , 2 pictures follow.  Firstly Bjorn Sandison, Captain of Watchdog G-SMMA on the left and First Officer Dave Middleton on the right and the second one is Bjorn aside his trusty workhorse.]

And here is one for Gwenda, XV232 doing a low pass

That's it.  I am all out of photos till next time.

All the best

Neil

Hi Neil,

You've uploaded some fantastic pictures...its so good to see the variety of planes that you get to see. You took some fantastic pictures of the Vulcan, i was so pleased to see them. Managed to get some decent pictures of a few planes at Inverness today...first time i've been up in months.

Keep up the good work :)
Laura

Thanks for the visit

Hi Neil,

Just want to begin by mentioning your final chapter on Leuchars; it had some really nice photos. I think the F16 looks like a rocket and I know from my own experience that it sounds just like one too! The Vulcan is such a lovely A/C, its shape is so majestic and reminds me a little of Concorde from above, you have some lovely photos of it and the Red Arrows!

I’d like to thank you for the lovely photos you have posted in your recent chapter, I was delighted to see the photo of the Fisheries A/C G-SMMA and 2 of its rather handsome crew members, what a fantastic addition to your blog they make!! The DH42 has passed by Inverness on a couple of occasions; I have often wondered what it was so thank you for that. Finally the photo of the Shorts 360 was nice to see, always manages to pull a few heart strings with me when I see it, happy memories operating on it in my Loganair days back and fore to KOI and LSI!

Take care for now Neil,

Emma xx
